Sean has over 43 years of playing and coaching experience at the club, high school, college, & ODP levels. He has developed curriculum models and implemented player developmental programs at the recreational, club, & high school levels. He has led multiple teams to State Championship titles at the club and high school level; developed youth players for the state, regional, and national level ODP teams; prepared, trained, and promoted players to regional, national, and college soccer programs, and is a highly experienced goalkeeper trainer & technical director. Sean has been married to his wife Heather for 25 years and they have two daughters, Haley and Brooklyn who both play soccer with ASA. Coach Sean holds the USSF National “C” License & the United Soccer Coaches "National" License.
Merlyn comes to us from Southern California where he had a successful coaching career with numerous teams and clubs including; Pioneer High School, La Mirada Soccer Club, AYSO, Arsenal Soccer Club Southern California, PSG Soccer Club Southern California, FC Man United Southern California, EI Surf now IE Legends, as well as working with kids in the Washington area recreational league. Merlyn grew up playing soccer from a young age in California. Merlyn went on to play High School soccer at Pioneer High School and then college at Cerritos. He also played in the USISL for Inland Empire Panteras and was invited to try out for the LA Galaxy and trained with PUMAS (Mexican Professional Team). He has coached with the Olympic Development Program and evaluated players for the Mexico Women’s National Team. He is married and has seven children. Coach Merlyn currently holds the USSF National “D” License.
John grew up playing soccer in the St. Louis area when he was 5. He was a candidate for the ODP Mid West team and continues playing soccer today in the GMSA Division I men’s league. John’s coaching career includes teams at St. Louis Busch & Wolfpack, the Dallas Stars, Memphis Futbol Club, Germantown Fury, and Collierville Lobos. Coach John holds the USSF National “D” license.
Wayne began playing soccer at the age of 3. In all 4 years of high school, he was the starting goalkeeper at Briarcrest Christian School. He was the only goalkeeper nominated for the 2019 Commercial Appeal Sports Awards Player of the Year. Additionally, Wayne was a 5-time D1 Tennessee state champion in club soccer. In 2017, he was selected to play on the Rush Select National Team twice, traveling to Phoenix, AZ, and Manchester, England. Wayne also had the opportunity to train at Manchester City and Liverpool while in England. Wayne is currently a sophomore at Christian Brothers University and will be working with all GK's in the program. Coach Wayne is in the process of acquiring his United Soccer Coaches Level 1 GK Diploma.
Greg has been coaching with ASA since the inaugural year. Greg grew up in Bartlett playing youth soccer and played competitively for the Rangers FC. Greg also plays and coaches a men’s soccer team for Greater Memphis Soccer Association. Coach Greg holds the USSF National “D” license.
Owen is originally from Diriamba, Nicaragua, and grew up in Southern California. As a player he was a local standout in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles; he led his high school team (La Serna High) to two CIF semi-final appearances. As a senior, he was invited to the San Gabriel Valley all-star game. Owen played collegiate soccer at Mt. San Antonio College and San Diego State University. As a professional he played in Nicaragua Primera División for Diriangén F.C and Hermanos Molinas F.C. After playing soccer in Central America, Owen returned to the United state to finish his college degree and played soccer in the United State International Soccer League (USISL) for the Redlands "Inland Empire Panteras". As a coach, Owen has been involved with youth soccer for many years in Southern California under AYSO (Region 66) and recently the Arlington soccer program. Coach Owen holds the USSF “E” license and is in the process of acquiring his USSF National “D” license.
Jarrod has coached youth soccer in Shelby and Tipton counties for over 11 years. He assisted in the formation of the first competitive youth soccer club in Tipton County. Jarrod is a Vice President in Business Development at Marsh ClearSight and has been married to his wife Katie for 18 years. He has three boys, Cooper, Eli, and Brody who all play for Arlington. Coach Jarrod holds the USSF National “D” license.
Alvaro is from Sevilla, Spain. He began his soccer career at a very early age, while also competing in other sports such as tennis and swimming. At the age of 12, Alvaro found his true love for the game and decided to solely focus on his soccer career. He joined the local soccer club Mairena del Aljarafe, and after excelling as the top defensive player within the club, he received his first contract with the powerhouse Spanish Professional Futbol Club, Sevilla FC. After 2 years Alvaro joined Real Betis Balompie and played for 4 years. He then moved to the US in 2019 to pursue his college soccer career and academic studies at Christian Brothers University. Alvaro is currently a Sophomore majoring in Chemical Engineering. Coach Martinez is in the process of acquiring his USSF license.
Grant was a local standout in the Memphis area as a player. He was a TN state team member 1993-2000. He was on the ODP 1997-2000 Regional team. Best of Preps finalist 97-2000. A winner in 2000. Adidas TN state player of the year 2000. High school All-American 2000. High school state and National Champions 1999-2000 (Houston high school). State Tournament MVP 2000. Invited to Elite Soccer Program (esp) in 1999. Under 23 National pool in 2001. Played at the University of Memphis 2000-2001. Memphis Cup MVP 2002, while attending CBU 2002. Grant has developed players for the regional and national ODP levels. Coach Grant holds the USSF “E” license and is in the process of acquiring his USSF National “D” license.
Greg has been coaching in the Arlington Youth Soccer program for over 10 years. He played competitive soccer in Texas and Memphis. He was a member of the TN State runner-up team and a Best of Preps finalist in 1989 for Germantown HighSchool. Greg then went on to play college soccer at Christian Brothers University where he was a standout defender. Greg has also played and coached in the Division I GMSA adult league for many years. Greg has been married to his wife Amy for 19 years and has three children, Maddie, Walker, and Gracie who all play in Arlington and ASA. Coach Greg holds the USSF “E” license and is in the process of acquiring his USSF National “D” license.
Ryan has been coaching in the Arlington Youth Soccer program for 11 years. The last four have been with Arlington Soccer Academy. He played competitive soccer in Plano, TX, and Memphis, TN. Ryan played High School soccer for Germantown High School, earning All-Metro honors in 1992. He went on to play college soccer at Christian Brothers University. Ryan has been married to Bethany Paule for 14 years. He has two daughters, both who play for ASA, and a son. Coach Ryan holds the USSF “E” license and is in the process of acquiring his USSF National “D” license.
Will Reno is from Midlothian, Texas. After graduating from Harding University, where he was the starting goalkeeper for the men’s program, he would be a part of the coaching staff at Arkansas State, Ouachita Baptist, and Texas Woman’s University. Most recently he served as the goalkeeper coach for Texas Spirit Soccer Club (Dallas, TX) as well as the head coach for other Texas Spirit teams. On the professional side, Will has helped many amateur goalkeepers on their path to the professional level. Since 2017, Will has scouted and invited graduating seniors to the Houston Dynamo’s goalkeeper ID camp, as well as assisting with various professional clubs and agencies’ searching for starting goalkeepers. Coach Reno holds a USSF National “D” license and a USC Level 2 Goalkeeper Diploma.
Phillip was born and raised in Memphis. He began playing recreational soccer when he was 5 years old, then played competitively for some of the local area clubs where he was called upon to lead his teams on and off the field. During his time at Arlington High School, Phillip played varsity soccer all 4 years and was named captain his Junior and Senior year helping the school win its first district and regional championships. Over the years, Phillip has coached recreational teams, been a staff coach for local soccer camps, and a staff director at Camp Conquest which works with special needs kids. Coach Phillip is in the process of acquiring his USSF license.
Louis has over 16 years of experience coaching competitive, recreational, and middle school in Memphis and Germantown, including the Germantown Soccer Club and Midsouth FC. He and his wife have two children, both played for the Germantown Soccer Club, Midsouth FC, CBHS, and Saint Agnes. In 2015, he attended a Futsal weekend Clinic presented by Keith Tozer, Head Coach of the US Futsal National Team. He has a 5 year BBA with a concentration in Hospitality and Travel, he was recruited by the Hilton corporate office in 2004. Coach Louis holds the USSF National Youth License and USSF National "D" license.
Katie grew up in Phoenix, AZ where she played soccer and was a standout for her local school and club teams. After arriving in Memphis as a Sophomore, she joined Arlington Soccer Academy where she graduated and then committed to playing college soccer at Southwest Tennessee Community College, captaining the Saluqis for 2 years. She then transferred to Louisiana State University Shreveport continuing her soccer career and eventually moving back to Memphis. Katie has coached at the competitive youth level as well as developed players through summer camp programs and skills clinics. Coach Katie was recently named the Head Varsity Girls coach for Fayette Academy in 2020 and has already shown her dedication to building a successful, winning program. Coach Katie is in the process of acquiring her USSF National “D” license.
Nathan has played soccer in the Memphis area from the age of 4 both recreationally and competitively. At the age of 18, Nathan began coaching soccer at the recreational level. After 2 years of coaching recreationally, he was recruited as a coach for Panathinaikos Soccer Schools Memphis Academy and later Bartlett Soccer Club. He and his wife have been married for 10 years and have 4 dogs. Nathan holds the USSF National “D” license.
