Coaching Staff

Sean has over 40 years of playing and coaching experience at the club, high school, college, & ODP levels. He has developed curriculum models and implemented player developmental programs at the recreational, club, & high school levels. He has led multiple teams to State Championship titles at the club and high school level; developed youth players for the state, regional, and national level ODP teams; prepared, trained, and promoted players to regional, national, and college soccer programs, and is a highly experienced goalkeeper trainer & technical director. Sean has been married to his wife Heather for 21 years and they have two daughters, Haley and Brooklyn who both play soccer with ASA. Coach Sean holds the US Soccer National “C” License & the NSCAA National Diploma.

Jon grew up playing soccer in the Memphis area. He was a stand out midfielder for Raleigh-Egypt High School. He began his coaching career in the Arlington Recreational program before joining the coaching staff with ASA in 2012. He is a 17 year veteran fire fighter/ EMT-A with the Memphis Fire Department. Jon has been married to his wife Natalie for 17 years and they have a daughter and son who both play with ASA. Coach Jon holds the US Soccer National “E” license and is pursuing his US Soccer National “D” license.

Kelly grew up playing soccer locally for the Germantown Fury and St. Agnes Academy where she was considered one of the best soccer players to ever come out of Memphis. During this time, Kelly won State Championships with both her club and High School teams. She was named Gatorade High School Player of the Year, High School All American, and was a member of the TN ODP team, Regional ODP team, and the Women’s U15 National team. She continued her success into college as one of the top recruits for the Texas A&M University Women’s Soccer program, where she earned a starting position for one of the most successful Div I College programs in the country her Sophomore year. While at Texas A&M, Kelly received many honors that included, NCAA 2nd Round Finalist, Four Time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, 4yr. DI Athlete, Texas A&M University, NCAA Sweet 16 Finalist, Preseason All Big 12 Team, Soccer Buzz All Central Region Third Team, NSCAA Player of the Week, All Big 12 First Team, and NCAA Elite 8 Finalist. After college, Kelly went on to play professionally for 2 years with the Austin Nationals and Houston Aces. She recently worked as a volunteer assistant coach with The University of Houston Women’s soccer program and Texas A&M. Kelly has also worked with young players in the Brazos Valley Youth Soccer Association and is a current staff member for the Texas A&M University Goalkeeper Camps. Coach Kelly is pursuing her US Soccer National “E” license.

Greg has been coaching with ASA  for 4 years. Greg grew up in Bartlett playing youth soccer and played competitively for the Rangers FC. Greg also plays and coaches a men’s soccer team for Greater Memphis Soccer Association. Coach Greg holds the US Soccer National “E” license and is pursuing his US Soccer National “D” license.

Phil is a native of Leeds, England. He played collegiate soccer at Manchester University (UK) and semi-pro/amateur level adult soccer. He has over 25 years coaching experience winning multiple titles with St Giles Soccer Club in Greenville, SC. (including back to back boys state championships), Upstate Girls SC (UGSA), Germantown Fury, and Midsouth FC. Phil worked in the UK for soccer company Umbro from 1983-1990 moving to Greenville, SC to work for Umbro USA from 1991-1999. In 1999 he moved to Memphis to work for Varsity Brands (running the Umbro and Select soccer division). Since 2011 he has worked for the Varsity Cheer business as VP of Customs Compliance and Import Management. Phil is married to his wife Kelly and their daughter Ashley attends the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Coach Phil holds the US Soccer National “E” license.

Owen is originally from Diriamba, Nicaragua and grew up in Southern California. As a player he was a local standout in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles; he led his high school team (La Serna High) to two CIF semi-final appearances. As a senior he was Invited to the San Gabriel Valley all-star game. Owen played collegiate soccer at Mt. San Antonio college and San Diego State University. As a professional he played in Nicaragua Primera División for Diriangén F.C and Hermanos Molinas F.C. After playing soccer in Central America, Owen returned to the United state to finish his college degree and played soccer in the United State International Soccer League (USISL) for the Redlands "Inland Empire Panteras". As a coach, Owen has been involved with youth soccer for many years in Southern California under AYSO (Region 66) and recently the Arlington soccer program. Coach Owen holds the US Soccer National “E” license and and is pursuing his US Soccer National “D” license.

Jarrod is entering his second year coaching with ASA, and has coached youth soccer in the Mid-South for over 10 years. Prior to joining ASA, Jarrod assisted in the formation of the first competitive youth soccer club in Tipton County. Jarrod is the Vice President of Client Technology Services at Sedgwick, where he has worked for over 17 years. He has been married to his wife Katie for 16 years and has three boys, Cooper, Eli, and Brody who all play for ASA. Coach Jarrod holds the US Soccer National “E” license and is pursuing his US Soccer National “D” license.

Grant was a local standout in the Memphis area as a player. He was TN state team member 1993-2000. He was on the ODP 1997-2000 Regional team. Best of preps finalist 97-2000. Winner in 2000. Adidas TN state player of the year 2000. High school All-American 2000. High school state and National Champions 1999-2000 (Houston high school). State Tournament MVP 2000. Invited to Elite Soccer Program (esp) in 1999. Under 23 National pool in 2001. Played at University of Memphis 2000-2001. Memphis Cup MVP 2002, while attending CBU 2002. Grant has coached with Memphis Futbol Club and has developed players for the regional and national ODP levels. Coach Grant holds the US Soccer National “E” license and is pursuing his US Soccer National “D” license.

Greg has been coaching in the Arlington Youth Soccer program for over 6 years. He played competitive soccer in Texas and Memphis. He was a member of the TN State runner up team and a Best of Preps finalist in 1989 for Germantown HighSchool. Greg then went on to play college soccer at Christian Brothers University where he was a standout defender. Greg has also played and coached in the Division I GMSA adult league for many years. Greg has been married to his wife Amy for 14 years and has three children, Maddie, Walker and Gracie who all play in Arlington and ASA. Coach Greg holds the US Soccer National “E” license and will obtain his “D” License this summer.

Ryan has been coaching in the Arlington Youth Soccer program for 6 years and with ASA for the last 2 years. He played competitive soccer in Plano, TX and Memphis, TN. Ryan played High School soccer for Germantown High School, earning All Metro honors in 1992. He went on to play college soccer at Christian Brothers University. Ryan has been married to Bethany Paule for 12 years. He has two daughters,  who both play for ASA, and a son. Coach Ryan holds the US Soccer National “E” license.

Stephen has over 14 years experience coaching soccer in the Shelby County area. Stephen has been married to his wife Lynda for 20 years and has 3 daughters Abbie, Katie and Molly who all played competitive soccer. His youngest daughter Abbie currently plays for ASA on the HS Girls team. Coach Stephen played soccer for the Sea Isle Park Rangers of the Memphis Motrin FC in the GMSA men’s Premier League and still pays indoor soccer in the St. Ann adult recreational league. Stephen is the owner of LMK Building Designs, Inc. and was the first elected president of the Tennessee Structural Engineers Association in 2010. Coach Stephen holds the US Soccer National Youth License, US Soccer National “D” License and the NSCAA National Diploma.
